Our Team

Our team of over 40 engineering students is led by a dedicated executive team. All executive members bring valuable skill sets that align with the vision of the team. With their experience and excellent leadership qualities, they are prepared to carry our team to success.

Owen Mackenzie,

Co-Captain

Owen is a 4th-year Mechanical Engineering major. I joined the team to meet new people, get hands-on design and manufacturing experience. This year, as co-captain, I hope to bring the community of tbogg to the jr members and help foster an environment full of learning and team spirit. As co-captain, I hope to gain more experience in project management.

Carys Franklin,

Co-Captain

Carys is a 4th-year Mechanical Engineering major. I joined GNCTR to broaden my experience in engineering while also contributing to a positive team environment! I am excited to be co-captain this year as I look forward to leading a team of hardworking individuals as we prepare for competition!

Jaydon Laidlaw, Superstructure Advisor

Jaydon is a 4th-year Mechanical Engineering major. I joined the team to meet new people and learn more about engineering design and building. Over the past few years, I’ve learned the ins and outs of GNCTR and gained extensive design and manufacturing experience through my own education. I hope to help create a strong exec foundation for our future team in the coming years.

Dylan Cox,

Frame Lead

Dylan is a 4th-year Mechanical Engineering major. The reason I joined GNTCR was to apply my engineering analysis skills and practical knowledge. During this season hope to teach new members anything about FEA, SolidWorks, practical engineering, and manufacturing skills. So feel free to ask anything. Another reason why I joined was to have a great time with everyone!

Franklin Goodfellow, Steering Lead

Franklin is a 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering major. I joined the team in my first year because of the hands-on opportunities. As last year’s steering lead, I’m hoping to build on progress from previous years. I hope to one day work in a manufacturing setting.

Daniel Ramirez-Gaston, Brake Lead

Daniel is a 5th-year Mechanical Engineering major. I joined the team to improve my manufacturing and CAD skills in a professional setting while meeting new people. This season, I hope to experiment with advanced manufacturing methods that would allow us to produce parts for a new dynamic braking system. In the future, I would like to apply my skills from TBOGG and university towards a career in Aerospace Engineering.

Jessica Bell,

Concrete Mix Lead

Jessica is a 4th-year Environmental Engineering major. I enjoy working in teams, and I am excited to apply all of my research on sustainable concrete to our mixes this season. I joined the team in the second year in hopes to learn more hands-on skills, and I am excited to teach what I learned to new members.

Emma Sanderson,

Spirit Lead

Emma is a 5th-year Environmental Engineering major. I joined Tbogg thanks to heavy recruitment from my eng big sister (shoutout Kelly). I love recruiting new team members, teaching people technical skills and helping others to add new knowledge to their toolbox. My goal is always to provide an outlet for the team during intense academic terms and to make GNCTR a positive space to learn and grow professionally.

Ojaswin Aujla,

Sponsorship Lead

Ojaswin is a 3rd-year Biomedical Engineering major. I joined the team to learn welding, staying because its just too fun!

Lillie Penner,

Ski Design Lead

Lillie is a 4th-year Mechanical Engineering major. I joined GNCTR to gain hands-on skills while working alongside like-minded people. As ski design lead this year, I hope to use my CAD experience to design ski molds that we can 3D print! Looking forward to working with everyone again, and to meeting this year’s new members!

Lauren Degabriele, Technical Exhabition Lead

Lauren is a 4th-year Biomedical Engineering major. I initially joined the team because I’ve always enjoyed being part of a collaborative environment and wanted to continue that experience throughout university. Being a part of this team has allowed me to explore other engineering disciplines within a supportive community that encourages continuous learning. This season, I’m excited to expand my knowledge across different subsections and take a more active role beyond my own specialty.

Madison Castle,

Marketing Lead

Madison is a 3rd-year Geography and Geomatics. I joined GNCTR Guelph initially to gain technical shop skills and to meet new people. Now I am interested in how geography, geomatics and engineering intersect in a professional and team-based environment. I am excited to contribute to this year’s amazing team and help our team achieve our environmental goals.

Vanessa Brenders,

Ski Reinforcement Lead

Vanessa is a 2nd-year Mechanical Engineering major. I joined the Concrete Toboggan team because I was drawn to the hands-on application of engineering and the welcoming, high-energy team environment that comes with the competition. As the Reinforcement Lead, I’m excited to strengthen my welding skills while bringing a sustainability perspective to our design process. This season, I hope to contribute both technical expertise and innovative ideas that support our team’s goals. Looking ahead, I aspire to build a career in renewable energy engineering, where I can help drive the transition to a more sustainable future.

Alyson Carnell,

Safety Lead

Alyson is a 4th-year Mechanical Engineering major. I joined GNCTR because of the collaborative teamwork across engineering disciplines and the unique opportunity to travel somewhere in Canada to race/test our design! I’m especially excited to take on the role of Safety Lead this year and look forward to working across subsections to produce a safe toboggan on race day!

Dr. Ryan Clemmer, Faculty Advisor

Dr. Clemmer has been an undergraduate and graduate engineering professor at the University of Guelph since 2012. He achieved his PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Waterloo and has been the faculty advisor for GNCTR Guelph since Guelph’s first season in 2017.
